Explore Kiest Park Neighborhoods

Brettonwoods | Kiestwood | Oak Park Estates

Come explore the Kiest Park neighborhoods in Dallas, Texas. Adjacent to the 248-acre Kiest Park are three wonderful neighborhoods: 1) Brettonwoods, 2) Kiestwood and 3) Oak Park Estates. Much of Brettonwoods was originally part of the Overton farm. In the early 1950’s, the family began to sell tracts for home building. To the north, is Kiestwood, where more than 400 homes were built between 1950 and 1965. Just east, Oak Park Estates was developed by brothers Vernon and James Smith, who were local architects, and developers. Oak Park Estates was marketed simply as “Oak Cliff’s finest neighborhood”. We think it’s pretty awesome too!

These Kings Highway parks are perfect for Spring outdoor fun and preserve green spaces in Oak Cliff!

History of Stone Park

Stone Park was once the location of the first 7-11. When that was torn down, it was left as a green space, which neighbors eventually enhanced, and christened Stone Park.

begins with an 8-year-old boy grooming the horses and mules that pulled ice-delivery wagons through Oak Cliff.

Young Joe C. Thompson Jr., known as “Jodie,” mucked stalls and otherwise cared for the animals that served Consumer Ice Co., which owned several ice plants and retail ice docks in Oak Cliff, including the ice house on Page at Polk. That building, constructed around 1915, once housed the predecessor of the Oak Cliff Cultural Center…”

Downtown Elmwood

Anchored by historic structures like Margaret B. Henderson Elementary School, Balboa Place and a Masonic lodge, Downtown Elmwood is the name affectionately given to a commercial district of roughly 14 acres – centered on S Edgefield Ave and Ferndale Ave – and comprised of dozens of small businesses, several places of worship, restaurants and even a recording studio.

Vivero’s Boxing Gym

Vivero’s Gym, founded in 1990 in a converted garage, is perhaps the biggest breeding ground for boxers in Dallas. It has incubated national champions and Olympic figures. It’s where the current world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. began his career.
