Neighbors Make it a Neighborhood

You can love your house, the parks nearby, the trees, etc. But what truly makes a neighborhood are the people in it. We are grateful for our Oak Cliff neighbors regularly. From the one that brings us cookies from a new recipe they just got (yum!) to the person we go on our weekly walks with. From the guy next door who picks up our mail when we’re away to the family three houses down we celebrate Thanksgiving with every year.

Emily Ruth and her family are a bit between neighborhoods, but she is so grateful for the new faces she encounters at the neighborhood treasure, Twelve Hills Nature Center. South Clinton and Winnetka Heights still have her heart, and she finds her way over there often.

Emily Ruth appreciates the neighborhood families working with school age children creatively to support each other and their teachers in this challenging time. It feels like a thankless job in a vacuum sometimes, but Emily Ruth is so incredibly thankful for the teachers, the young growing minds, and the collective support to heal from this pandemic.

Jenni appreciates how the time since late March has brought many more of her neighbors out to walk/run/bike on Greenbriar Ln. And of course, her Kings Highway neighbors remain near and dear from the decade-plus living on Windomere and Kings Hwy. This time has made her grateful for relationships and the creative ways we have found to maintain them. From FaceTime happy hours, to Zoom birthday calls, and socially distant coffees in backyards. She loves the attention that is being put into caring for those we love.

See you soon, neighbors.

Have a happy (and safe) halloween!

Here are some suggestions for having the safest Halloween possible in 2020. With the current high risk of COVID-19 transmission, Dallas County is asking you to be creative in the way you celebrate Halloween this year. Here are a few of their ideas:

🧟‍♀️💻Virtual Costume Contest

🚘🕸Car Parades

👻📽Spooky Movie Night

🔍🍬Candy Scavenger Hunt

Ghoulish Yard Contest and Tour

This year has been spooky (SO SPOOKY) in a zillion ways. Time to take a break from scary reality, and embrace ghoulish yards committed to going all out for Halloween.

Don’t know about other neighborhoods, but Oak Cliff really is one of the best we’ve seen for yard decorating. From massive blowups, and giant spiderwebs, to creative, self-made scenes. We love driving the blocks of Kessler Park, Winnetka Heights, and Kings Highway this time of year.

Help us out, by sharing your favorite yards, like this spooky one above on Winnetka. Email a pic with the address (at least block number, street, and city) by Friday, Oct, 30 at midnight. We will post them all next week, for others who want to see the sights. In addition, we will declare a winner on Saturday. The winning yard and submitter of the yard will receive a special prize from The Jenni Stolarski Team.

Happy Halloween!

XOXO,

Jenni & Em

two great homes open this Sunday

The Jenni Stolarski Team has two great homes open this Sunday, October 25th.

First, go see Emily Ruth in Kessler Plaza at this home with 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, at an amazing price, just under $300,000. There are also 2 living areas, open to the dining room and kitchen. This home is a dream for entertaining! There is even a new deck in the back yard for your socially distant outdoor parties.

Then at 3pm you can find Emily Ruth at 619 S Clinton. This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a casita has so much charm. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by immaculate tolerant landscaping. Once inside the original front door you’ll see custom built-ins, original hardwood floors, an updated kitchen with quartz countertops and so much more. This is a must-see.

Save Your Green Buddies

You know that we love the outdoors and plants. In fact, Jenni has a whole courtyard dedicated to potted succulents and cacti. If you’re a Jenni Stolarski Team client, you may have even received one of these plant offspring. Did we mention, we love plants?

Here’s a seasonal heads up, for your green buddies…there’s an unusually early cold front coming to North Texas early next week. That’s right, on Monday, October 26th, the temps are supposed to drop all day. And on Tuesday/Wednesday overnight lows are predicted to be in the 30’s. Too cold for our most tender plants.

So if you’re like Emily Ruth, bring in your money tree and aloe on Monday morning. And, if you are like Jenni, you may want to get a jumpstart with the plant migration this weekend. Thank goodness for the plant dolly that lives in her yard and the roll up door to make it easier. Certain large pots of cactus can handle this cold snap, so you may just want to water them deeply on Monday. As for inground plants, consider covering tender annuals and herbs (think tomatoes, basil, etc)…because you know it will be back up to 70oF this month.
